Fort Rammekens

Walk through Fort Rammekens: you enter through a meter-high, thick, heavy, wooden door and can wander around the casemates, half bastions, main bastion and former powder rooms. From the fortress you have a magnificent view of the Western Scheldt and Zeeuws-vlaanderen. Dis the oldest sea fort in Western Europe and is full of traces of Spanish military, English mercenaries, Dutch Sea Beggars, Zeeland, East and especially West Indiamen, German soldiers and French revolutionaries.
