The Hoge Wal forms one of the best preserved motte castles in Flanders where the former "mote-structuur" is still clearly recognizable today: the upper courtyard, lower courtyard and the moat still exist as separate elements. In 1190, Zeger II built the motte castle Hoge Wal. Today you can no longer find a real castle on the castral motte. However, you will find traces of a medieval past.
