Who was Gerard Mercator? The Mercator Museum spotlights this scientist. He moved the beacons of cartography in the Renaissance. Do you want to know what concepts he introduced? Or are you just interested in the masterpieces of terrestrial globe (1541) and celestial globe (1551)? The answers to these questions, as well as a collection of atlases, can be found in the Mercator Museum. In the modern cartography department, using wall maps, working and measuring instruments and digital applications, you will learn all about the history of mapmaking from 1830 to 2014. You will learn all about how the source material of a map evolved from aerial photographs to satellite photographs. And you'll discover how map applications shed light on current issues of spatial planning, ecology, navigation and mobility.
