Archaeology Days

Archaeology brings the past to life and captures the imagination of young and old. Excavations make us curious about the stories of the past. During Archaeology Days, all those involved in archaeology open their doors to let everyone marvel at the beautiful world of the profession. Doors are even opened that normally remain closed to the public. Every year, (local) organizers put together their own program and bring it under the banner of Archaeology Days. Our soil has an incredible amount to tell us, and archaeology helps to bring these stories to our attention. Discover what used to happen in the Geopark and how beautiful our Geopark area is through adventurous, educational or playful activities. You can go on a guided hike, visit exhibitions or attend lectures. But you can also get to work yourself!

The activities are spread over several days and different places in Flanders and the Netherlands. The Belgian Archaeology Days take place in the fourth weekend of May, more information about the Belgian Archaeology Days can be found here. The Dutch National Archaeology Days take place in the third weekend of June, more information about the National Archaeology Days can be found here. On these websites you can also find more about the education packages with topics such as archaeology, climate change, nature and culture.
