Bunker museum Zoutelande

Want to learn more about the Atlantic Wall or the Battle of the Scheldt? Then the Bunker Museum Zoutelande is a must-visit. Located at the former German strongpoint Stützpunkt Zoutelande, the museum reveals how Zeeland became part of an immense defensive line stretching from Norway to the Spanish border.

The bunkers are hidden in the dunes, originally built to prevent an Allied landing. Inside the museum, you step back in time through original bunkers, some restored to their 1944 state. You’ll learn about daily life inside the bunkers, the strategic importance of Walcheren, and the intense fighting during the Battle of the Scheldt.

What this place tells us about the Geopark

The Bunker Museum Zoutelande shows how the geography of Walcheren shaped the course of the war. The high dunes and strategic location made this a key position in both the defence and liberation of the Netherlands. Here, you can see how the landscape didn’t just protect; it also defined, constrained, and influenced the events of history.
