The Rupel region

The Rupel region is a very special area south of Antwerp. It is part of the Scheldeland and forms a green zone between several densely populated areas. Here, a 30-million-year-old layer of very compact sea clay comes to the surface in the form of a so-called cuesta. Along the Rupel from Hemiksem to Rumst, an extensive brick industry has developed since the 18th century, which has now almost also disappeared. Traces of geology and cultural history are visible everywhere. Join us on a discovery of traces of the past in this beautiful part of Geopark Schelde Delta.
